These two groups of paper and string drawings were made after the sudden death of my mother. Unable to paint for months, making these daily functioned as meditative rosaries through their layering and sewing.

The white drawings are Japanese osho paper layered with napkins and sewn together with blue string. The stacks very in height and can be hung or arranged in piles, and I was interested in how light intereacted with the varying thickness of each pile. The photo above shows one month of making/prayer.

The black drawings are made with ink on osho paper. The ink ‘horizon lines’ were sorted, with like horizons sewn together with blue string.
